Joe Stapleton has announced his departure from PokerStars after 15 years as an official commentator. Following a career shaped by a move to Europe after Black Friday, Stapleton will conclude his tenure at the upcoming EPT Monte Carlo 2026 event.

The landscape of televised poker broadcasting is set for a significant shift as Joe Stapleton announces the conclusion of his long-standing partnership with PokerStars.

Known as a definitive voice in the industry for two decades, Stapleton has officially confirmed that the upcoming European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo 2026 will serve as his final event in the role of an official commentator.
Stapleton’s journey with the brand began 15 years ago, forming one half of a partnership often cited as one of the most famous duos in sports broadcasting history. Reflecting on his start, Stapleton noted the unexpected nature of his rise to prominence. He remarked that 15 years ago, the organization took a chance on a "cocky kid from a podcast" by transitioning him to a career on professional television.

His trajectory was significantly influenced by the events of "Black Friday," which caused a total cessation of poker productions within the United States. In response to the industry freeze, PokerStars made the strategic decision to relocate Stapleton to Europe, a move that would ultimately cement his status as a legendary figure behind the microphone.

In his formal statement regarding the departure, Stapleton expressed a sense of deep gratitude and humility. He admitted that his professional achievements have surpassed his initial expectations, stating that he has achieved more than he ever imagined at the start of his career.

While the EPT Monte Carlo 2026 marks the end of an era for both the broadcaster and the platform, Stapleton leaves behind a legacy built on 15 years of consistent presence at the heart of the world’s most prestigious poker circuits.
