The two biggest guarantees at PartyPoker Tour Castellón were worth €150,000 between them. By the end of the week, the Main Event and Mini Main alone had generated more than €254,000 in prize money.

Jonathan Rees took the biggest individual share, winning the €500 Main Event for €30,000, while Marius-Laurentiu Dinu topped the 727-entry Mini Main for €16,000. The October 5-11 festival marked PartyPoker’s third visit to Spain this year.

Rees Turns Fifth-Place Final-Day Stack Into Main Event Title

The Main Event closed registration with 368 entries, pushing its €100,000 guarantee up to a final pool of €163,760.

Spain had three of the top four stacks going into the final day, led by Pau Veciana with three million chips. Jonathan Rees started fifth and had PartyPoker Tour representatives Barry Carter and Matt Staples close behind him.

Rees survived a final table that changed quickly once play became short-handed. Carter finished sixth and Staples seventh, leaving Rees to battle Veciana and Jose Maria Perez at the top.

Veciana eventually reached heads-up but could not finish the job. Rees took the final pot to claim his 11th recorded live tournament victory, while the €30,000 payday easily surpassed his previous best tournament cash.

Mini Main Nearly Doubles Its Guarantee

Castellón’s €150 Mini Main needed 400 paid entries to reach its €50,000 guarantee from the €125 portions going into the prize pool. It ended with 727 entries.

That took the total pool to €90,875 and gave the opening half of the festival one of its biggest stories before the Main Event had really got moving.

Marius-Laurentiu Dinu started the final table only seventh in chips, while Spain’s Christian Martin led and Matt Staples sat among the favourites. Dinu had already spent most of the tournament near the top, however, and recovered quickly once nine-handed play began.

The Romanian eventually saw off Alberto Martinez in heads-up play. Martinez made a river flush in the final pot, only for Dinu to show a full house and end the tournament.

Castellón Lands Between Seville and Madrid

The Spanish stops have produced fairly different numbers despite using the same €500 Main Event price point and €100,000 headline guarantee.

Madrid remains comfortably ahead after drawing 535 entries and €238,075 in May. Seville reached 383 entries and €170,435, while Castellón finished only 15 entries behind Seville at 368.

The Mini Main performed better relative to the earlier stops. Its 727 entries topped Seville by 74, although Madrid’s 918 remains the number to beat.
