Is the "Poker Brat" dynasty securing its next generation? Phillip Hellmuth III is making waves in Las Vegas, proving that run-good might just be genetic.
If you thought dealing with one Hellmuth at the table was a handful, get ready for the sequel. While 17-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth is busy chasing high-stakes glory at the PokerGO Studio this week, his son, Phillip Hellmuth III, is across the street at Planet Hollywood, carving out his own path in the WSOP Circuit.
And if his recent performance is any indication, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, especially when it comes to catching heat at the perfect moment.
The Monster Stack Run Good
The drama unfolded during Day 1b of the $600 Monster Stack No-Limit Hold'em, a key event in the WSOP Circuit’s return to Planet Hollywood. Hellmuth III didn’t just survive the flight; he thrived, bagging a massive stack of 302,000 chips.
But it was how he got those chips that had the rail whispering about "White Magic."
In a sequence that would make his father proud (and his opponents tilt off the face of the earth), the younger Hellmuth found himself on the right side of a poker dream scenario:
- The Three-Way All-In: Hellmuth III woke up with Pocket Aces in a massive three-way pot, holding the best starting hand in poker and dodging the minefield to scoop a huge early pot.
- The Cooler: As if that wasn't enough, he later reported winning a brutal set-over-set encounter, cementing his status as the chip magnet of the day.
A Tale of Two Hellmuths
While Phillip III was stacking towers of chips at the Planet Hollywood grinder-friendly circuit, his legendary father was just down the strip. Phil Sr. took to social media earlier in the week to announce he was heading to Vegas with his two sons, Phillip and Nicholas.
However, the "Poker Brat" himself sat out the Circuit grind, opting instead for the $10,100 PGT Last Chance series at the PokerGO Studio. It’s a poetic split screen: the father battling the high rollers, and the son grinding the trenches, hunting for hardware.
Chasing the First Ring
Despite the family’s overflowing trophy case (17 WSOP bracelets and counting), there is one piece of jewelry missing from the Hellmuth household: a WSOP Circuit Ring.
Should Phillip Hellmuth III close out this Monster Stack event, he would become the first Hellmuth to slip a Circuit ring on his finger, adding a new chapter to the family’s storied history in the game.
With a stack like that and the Hellmuth name on the placard, all eyes will be on Planet Hollywood to see if the "Prince of Poker" can close the deal.
