Poker Community Backs Antoine Degiorgio With Portomaso Fundraiser
- Charity poker event at Portomaso Casino to support Antoine Degiorgio's rehab.

Poker has been one of the ways Antoine Degiorgio has brought people together in Malta for years. An upcoming tournament at Portomaso Casino will now use that same community to support him.
The charity event is raising funds for Degiorgio’s rehabilitation after a serious heart attack earlier this year. Alongside the tournament itself, poker and gaming companies have contributed a selection of packages and entries, adding another fundraising element to the evening.
Portomaso Brings the Malta Poker Scene Together
Portomaso Casino has long been one of the main stops for live poker in Malta, hosting both local tournaments and international festivals from its St Julian’s poker rooms.
For this event, the focus shifts away from a conventional festival prize pool. Added prizes include a €1,600 The Festival Series package, four €125 TF Tallinn Chicago tickets, a €250 NBDP Coin Bundle and a €250 Betsson One Bullet Entry.
The tournament is part of a wider fundraising effort aimed at securing the next year of specialist rehabilitation for Degiorgio.
From Charity Organiser to Fundraiser Beneficiary
Degiorgio’s name is already closely connected with charity poker in Malta. He has organised events for other causes, including a tournament last December that raised €11,125 for Dar Bjorn.
He is also the founder of Malta Poker Fish and has spent more than 15 years connecting local players with the large international poker community that regularly visits the island.
That changed sharply after a cardiac arrest in March left him with significant brain damage. His family says he has made meaningful progress since then but now requires a level of long-term cognitive and neurological rehabilitation that cannot currently be provided through his existing hospital care.
The family’s €85,000 target is intended to fund a year of specialist care. The Portomaso tournament now gives Malta poker a direct role in that effort, this time with one of the community’s own long-time organisers on the receiving end of the support.
