For the first time in its legendary 46-year history, the Irish Poker Open is leaving shores close to home to plant its flag on a completely different continent. Organizers distributed the official schedule for Irish Open Australia, a 15-day series running from August 31 through September 14 at the Poker Palace casino.

The schedule comes with a layout of over 40 tournaments, backing the historic trip with nearly A$2,000,000 in collective prize pool guarantees. Here is what we can tell you so far.

The Blueprint of the A$1,000,000 Flagship

The anchor of the entire festival is the A$1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event, expected to be an immediate highlight on the regional tournament calendar. For its Australia debut, the Main Event includes:
  • Entry: Players can enter the field via a direct A$2,000 buy-in.
  • Schedule Window: The tournament begins its first phase on Sunday, September 6.
  • Phase Options: The Main Event structure leverages six starting flights, giving players extensive options including two specialized turbo flights.
  • On-Site Satellites: To drive massive field engagement, the Poker Palace schedule schedules 18 super satellites that will explicitly award 170 guaranteed seats to the Main Event.

From the Mini to High-Stakes Alternatives

The rest of the tournament schedule features a little bit of everything, exatcly what Irish Open fans have grown to expect.

Standing out is the Mini Irish Open, which aims to replicate its massive European fields by placing a A$500,000 guarantee behind an affordable A$360 buy-in. This particular event features 11 distinct Day 1 flights heavily distributed from August 31 to September 11.

The remainder of the multi-game schedule balances traditional and novel structures:
  • Lucky 8s: Featuring an A$250,000 guarantee, this tournament runs across five starting flights, culminating in a final table on September 6.
  • Inaugural Sydney Poker Open: Placed strategically on the final two days of the calendar, this A$880 buy-in event carries an A$100,000 guarantee.
  • Inclusivity Tournaments: The A$360 Deaf Championship Main Event will take place on Saturday, September 5 under the guidance of ambassador Darren Chow, running alongside a dedicated A$200 Ladies Championship and a A$600 Seniors Championship.
  • Mixed-Game Disciplines: Non-Hold'em players gain significant representation with the new A$600 Asia-Pacific Cup, Sviten Special, Mixed 8-Game High Roller, a A$10,000 Super High Roller, and standard A$600 entries for PLO 4/5/6, The Hendon Mob Championship, and Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw.

Charting a Global Future for an European Icon

The transition to Australia is the Irish Open's first intentional effort to integrate the signature Dublin festival experience into the booming Asia-Pacific live poker community.

To maintain the atmosphere that defined its Dublin roots, the venue will incorporate the Craic Den player lounge, a dedicated social hub featuring live music and active non-poker entertainment directed by Phil Baker.

The Craic Den

The expansion relies on a natural cultural exchange between international and local poker circles. Detailing the broader strategy behind the global transition, tournament co-owner JP McCann explained:

We’ve always believed poker should be serious at the tables and great craic everywhere else, so bringing the Irish Open to Sydney felt like a natural fit. Sydney also gives us the chance to connect with the growing Asia-Pacific poker community while bringing a little bit of Ireland with us. The Irish Open has always been about atmosphere as much as poker, and we can’t wait to bring that energy to Australia.
