$388K Shortfall Turns Into WPT Cyprus Overlay
- WPT Cyprus saw a $388K overlay after only 520 entries.

WPT Cyprus has reached its final table, but one of the biggest numbers from the Championship was settled before the last six even sat down.
The $3,500 event attracted 520 entries at Chamada Prestige Hotel & Casino, not enough to cover its $2 million guarantee through buy-ins alone. The field generated $1.612 million for the prize pool, leaving a $388,000 shortfall that the guarantee had to cover. Mihai Trofim now leads the final six with $368,900 waiting for the eventual champion.
How WPT Cyprus Ended Up With a $388K Overlay
The Championship carried the same $3,500 entry and $2 million guarantee that WPT used for its Cyprus stop last year.
Of each $3,500 entry, $3,100 went towards the prize pool. At 520 entries, that produced $1,612,000:

WPT confirmed after late registration closed that the final prize pool would remain at exactly $2 million because the field had not reached the guarantee. A total of 65 players made the money, with the min-cash set at $7,700.
This is definitely a change from 2025. That edition attracted 775 entries with the same $3,500 buy-in and comfortably cleared the guarantee, eventually reaching a $2,402,500 prize pool. This year’s field was 255 entries smaller.
Trofim Leads the Final Six
The Championship has now been reduced from 520 entries to six finalists.
Mihai Trofim heads into the final table with 6.225 million chips, narrowly ahead of Chadi Rizk and Farbod Nazari. Sergiu Cornea is the shortest stack with 1.325 million.

The remaining payouts climb to $97,000 for fifth, $130,000 for fourth, $175,000 for third and $238,000 for the runner-up. First place is listed at $368,900, which includes a $10,400 entry into the season-ending WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas.
Bernardo Miguel Baptista Das Neves was the last player eliminated before the six-handed table, taking $56,500 in seventh. Rayan El Jawhari finished eighth for $44,000, while Nariman Yaghmai collected $36,000 in ninth.
Who takes the title is still to be decided, but the overlay is already locked into the story of this year’s Championship: 520 entries, a $2 million payout pool and $388,000 more on the table than those entries generated.
