Cash game specialist Alan Keating registered for the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship at the 2026 World Series of Poker but forfeited his entry fee after running late and officially conceding his first-round match against Piotr Krupa without playing.
The 2026 World Series of Poker witnessed an unusual turn of events on Saturday when high-stakes cash game specialist Alan Keating registered for his first tournament of the summer but failed to play a single hand.
Keating paid the $25,000 entry fee to enter Day 1b of Event #7: $25,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em Championship. The prestigious tournament featured a 128-player bracket, with Keating drawn to face Piotr Krupa in the opening round.
However, when the scheduled match began, Keating was nowhere to be found, causing tournament staff to actively blind out his chips in his absence.
As the match progressed, Keating eventually contacted tournament operators to notify them that he was running late. Rather than attempting to rush to the venue to salvage his remaining chips, Keating chose to officially concede the match.
The concession directly impacted the bracket and the tournament prize pool. Because Keating forfeited the $25,000 buy-in required to enter the Championship, Krupa advanced to the second round without needing to play a hand.
Krupa now awaits the winner of another first-round matchup featuring Adrian Mateos and Nikita Kuznetsov, while Keating officially exits the event with a total loss of his entry fee.
