Leon Sturm Leads the Triton $100K NLH Main Event After Day 1

Day 1 of the prestigious $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event concluded after 10 levels of play. The field attracted 142 entrants, including re-entries, before almost half of the players were eliminated. By the end of the session, 73 players successfully bagged chips, with Germany's Leon Sturm claiming the overnight chip lead.

Sturm built his momentum steadily throughout the day. He secured a substantial pot after turning a straight with king-ten of spades against Tobias Schwecht.

Later, Sturm eliminated Wiktor Malinowski in a classic coinflip situation where his ace-jack bested the Polish player's pocket fives. Sturm finalized his chip lead late in the evening by flopping a set with pocket threes against the pocket aces of Schwecht, who moved all his chips into the pot.

Sturm returns for Day 2 at 1:00 p.m. local time on May 22 with 1,370,000 chips, equivalent to 137 big blinds. Danilo Velasevic sits in second place with 1,031,000 chips, followed by Javid Ismayilov in third with 1,016,000.

The remaining field features numerous prominent names, including Ben Tollerene (988,000), Alex Foxen (819,000), Jesse Lonis (771,000), Isaac Haxton (754,000), Fedor Holz (647,000), Adrian Mateos (545,000), Mikita Badziakouski (413,000), and Triton founder Paul Phua (201,000).

Christoph Vogelsang Completes Triton Hat Trick With 13th $1M Score

Germany's Christoph Vogelsang secured his third career Triton Poker championship on May 21 after winning the $50,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em 7-Handed event. The 40-year-old outlasted a 118-entry field to earn $1,037,858, marking the 13th seven-figure payout of his career.

The final payouts were altered by a three-handed deal made among three German-speaking players. While Vogelsang officially took the title, the deal awarded Leonard Maue $909,127 and Thomas Muehloecker $1,071,015.

Adrian Mateos Takes Down Biggest-Ever Triton Invitational ($6.37M)

Spain's Adrian Mateos achieved a career-best score of $6,370,000 by winning the $200,000 buy-in Triton Invitational in Montenegro. The tournament drew a record-breaking field of 133 entries. With this victory, the 31-year-old became the seventh player in poker history to surpass $60 million in live tournament earnings, overtaking Alex Foxen and Daniel Negreanu on the all-time money list.

"Right now I'm pretty happy," Mateos stated in his post-game interview. "These tournaments are super special for me, and I always come super motivated to play these Invitationals. It feels amazing to win the third title and one of these huge tournaments."
