Antonio Esfandiari secured an $824,500 victory on High Stakes Poker by hitting quads against Sameh Elamaway's aces full.

High Stakes Poker often produces intense drama, but Episode 7 of the latest season delivered a rare statistical anomaly.

Antonio Esfandiari faced off against Sameh Elamaway in a pot that climbed over $800,000. Esfandiari has been living a quiet life lately, but he showed no rust during this televised session.

The action started with Elamaway holding the best starting hand in poker: pocket aces. He raised to $5,000, and Esfandiari called with pocket eights. The flop landed with two eights and a six.

Esfandiari hit quads on the flop, a rare occurrence in high stakes games. All three players checked the flop, setting a trap for the later streets.

The One Outer Disaster

The turn card was an ace. This gave Elamaway a full house. In most scenarios, aces full is an unbeatable hand. Elamaway bet $10,000, and Esfandiari raised to $37,000. Elamaway responded with a raise to $85,000.

Esfandiari called, waiting for the river to take the rest of the chips. The river was a safe three. Elamaway bet $225,000, leaving himself with very few chips behind.
Esfandiari raised, and Elamaway called to see the bad news. The $824,500 pot moved toward Esfandiari. This specific cooler reminded fans of the Gus Hansen and Daniel Negreanu hand from the early days of the show.

In that instance, quads also beat a full house for a record pot. Esfandiari now holds a spot in the record books for one of the most profitable hands in the history of the series.
