Poker sensation Annette Obrestad has made a stunning return at the WSOPE Main Event. After an eight-year hiatus involving YouTube and competitive Scrabble, the 2007 champion bagged a seven-figure stack for Day 4, proving she can still crush the competition.

Annette Obrestad is back, and it feels as though the former prodigy never walked away from the felt. During Day 3 of the record-breaking WSOPE Main Event, Obrestad reminded the poker world why she was once the most feared player in the game.

In her first major tournament appearance in eight years, she captivated the rail with the signature high-pressure moves that defined her early career.

Since retreating from the professional poker circuit, Obrestad found success in entirely different arenas. She built a popular YouTube makeup channel and pivoted her competitive drive toward the world of high-level Scrabble.

However, her return to the poker spotlight is officially in full swing, and her performance on Day 3 answered the burning question: can the original champion still go deep?

Adapting to a New Era of Aggression

The poker landscape has shifted significantly since Obrestad last hoisted a trophy. By the dinner break, she found herself navigating a shorter stack of 24 big blinds with two levels of play remaining.

When Jeff Platt caught up with her to ask if the game felt different after her hiatus, Obrestad offered a grounded perspective.

"I have definitely noticed a couple of things that I did not see on Day 1," Obrestad remarked. She noted a visible uptick in aggression, with players taking unique lines and engaging in more frequent 3-betting and 4-betting."

"Despite the evolution of modern theory, her confidence remains unshaken. At the end of the day it is still poker, and I feel like I can hang with them."

Bagging a Seven-Figure Stack for Day 4

Obrestad appeared to be manifesting a golden result through her attire, sporting five gold rings, gold-framed sunglasses, and matching gold nails. As the field thinned into the double digits for the first time, her focus paid off.

Out of a massive starting field, only 85 players remained to bag chips for Day 4. Notably, the final two women in the field are both historic WSOP figures:
  • Shiina Okamoto: 3,130,000 chips
  • Annette Obrestad: 1,025,000 chips

Okamoto enters Day 4 with a massive lead after her recent back-to-back Ladies Championship victories.

Meanwhile, Obrestad is looking to bookend her career by winning the largest WSOPE Main Event in history, nearly two decades after she won the inaugural event in 2007.

As the blinds go up, all eyes are on these two icons to see if they can navigate the final stretch toward the bracelet.
