Sofia Lövgren won the APT Mystery Bounty Championship in Taipei.
She maintained a strong lead and secured several top prizes.
Her victory marks the second championship win by a woman at this year’s series.
You never know with poker. Some final tables stretch into long negotiations, others dissolve under pressure, and then there are the ones where one player sets the pace from the start.
In Taipei, that player was Sweden’s Sofia Lövgren, who arrived at the APT Mystery Bounty Championship finale with the chip lead and ended the evening with almost everything worth collecting: the title, TWD 2,268,380, both top bounty envelopes, and the APTC Main Event seat. The tournament drew 667 entries, yet Lövgren kept the storyline remarkably tidy.
What Happened at the Final Table
Lövgren led the table narrowly over Taiwan’s Hao Cheng, but the margin widened almost immediately.
She knocked out Yubin Heon early when her pocket jacks stayed ahead of his pocket tens, then picked off Chen An Lin in a hand that required a river flush to come from behind with ace six against ace nine.
Moments later, the table watched Takashi Arima finally find pocket aces after an entire level anchored to the short stack, only to see Man Wai Lui turn a straight with pocket threes.
Justin Tsui Justin Tsui held out admirably despite Lövgren shadowing him on the left, but his run ended when Lui rivered Broadway over Tsui’s pocket jacks. From there, Lövgren resumed control, knocking out Pou Jin after jamming a suited ace that made a flush against Jin’s ace king. Jin’s exit left three players, and the pressure only increased.
Hao Cheng Man Wai Lui was the next casualty when he ran pocket eights into Lövgren’s pocket jacks, solidifying her near-unassailable position heading into the final showdown.
The Mystery Bounty Heads Up
Heads-up lasted about as long as it took the dealer to shuffle twice. Holding a four-to-one lead, Lövgren called Cheng’s shove with king jack against his ace seven, hit top pair on the flop, and locked up the title when the river improved her to two pair.
Cheng collected TWD 1,400,700 for second place, while Lövgren added her first APT title and a 17-kilogram lion trophy she insists she’ll “find a way” to get home.
Sofia Lövgren This makes the Mystery Bounty the second championship win by a woman already at this year’s series and Lövgren wasn't oblivious to it:
It feels pretty good, it was a great tournament for me.
