The final day of the $30,000 BSOP Super High Roller had the kind of momentum swings that only deep-stack live poker can deliver. Twenty-four players returned to the WTC Sheraton in São Paulo to contest the final round of the $1,320,000 prize pool, and by night’s end it was Martin Kabrhel raising the trophy and doing so from a nearly impossible position.

After falling to just six big blinds and trailing Ottomar Ladva by a 14:1 margin heads up, Kabrhel mounted a dramatic surge to capture the title and the $422,000 top prize. His reaction afterward was characteristically brief.

I was very lucky.

Final-Day Action

With late registration open through the start of Day 2, the early field filled quickly and played just as fast. Ten eliminations came in the first half hour alone before the tempo slowed near the final-table bubble. It was Renan Bruschi who ultimately missed out on the last seat.

Once the final six were set, the tone shifted. It was actually Kabrhel and Ladva who dictated nearly everything from that point forward. The money bubble burst when Ivan Luca, making his third straight Super High Roller final table, lost a dominated but unfortunate all-in against Kabrhel.

From there, the Czech player gathered momentum quickly, knocking out Rafael Moraes with pocket tens against ace-seven before winning a flip to eliminate Thiago Crema.

Ladva countered by taking out Andre Akkari and then Rodrigo Seiji, giving him a slight lead heading into heads up.

Heads-Up: A Reversal No One Saw Coming

The first key pot arrived quietly from a limped pot. Ladva made trips and extracted maximum value from Kabrhel’s flush draw, leaving the Czech star with six big blinds and almost no room left to maneuver.

Kabrhel doubled once, then forced a shove through, then doubled again. By the time the stacks evened, the entire rhythm of the match had shifted, and it was Ladva who found himself on the defensive. The final hand saw Ladva call off with queen-seven, unable to catch Kabrhel’s pocket pair.

Moments later, the trophy was in Kabrhel’s hands, closing out a year that already includes two WSOP bracelets.
