The WSOP Circuit’s visit to New Orleans has already delivered a storyline with some real kick. Maurice Hawkins, who reclaimed the all-time lead in Circuit rings earlier this week, has now padded that margin with ring number 21, earned in another $400 No Limit Hold’em event.

The Run Continues

This second win in quick succession came with $12,996 and yet another reminder of why Hawkins remains one of the most formidable closers on the WSOPC trail. The event drew several notable grinders, but the final stretch came down to three experienced competitors: Hawkins, Shane Bissinger, and Rex Clinkscales.

Clinkscales held the upper hand early, entering the final table with a commanding chip lead. The tides shifted when he moved all in with A-2, only to find Hawkins waiting with pocket tens. That pot set up a short heads-up burst, where Bissinger’s all-in shove met Hawkins’ A-K. One more clean runout later, and Hawkins had secured the title.

Looking Toward Paradise

This victory automatically awards entry to WSOP Paradise in The Bahamas, though Hawkins was already booked thanks to a previous ring this season. Instead, the win stands as another reinforcement of his presence at the top of WSOPC history, complex reputation and all.

With the New Orleans stop still underway, the only real question is whether Hawkins intends to add even more distance before the festival wraps.
