Dustin Iannotti reportedly admitted using AI to craft quotes for Alan Keating in two episodes of the WSOP No Limit documentary. Keating flagged the edits on social media. Deleted posts sparked concerns about integrity, transparency, and the broader use of AI in poker storytelling.
The final episode in the WSOP documentary series No Limit is still pending, but the show’s creator Dustin Iannotti has stepped into a storm after admitting that artificial intelligence was used in the latest episodes to create quotes attributed to Alan Keating.
In now-deleted tweets, Iannotti confirmed that the lines were generated with AI trained to imitate Keating’s voice, based on themes Keating had discussed in an interview. Keating did not know about this and had not approved the lines before release.
Keating Blows the Whistle
Keating appeared in Episodes 5 and 6 of the eight-part run. Both aired last week and covered action from the 2024 WSOP Paradise.
On Friday evening, Keating used social media to point out inconsistencies he saw in the show. He reposted the WSOP’s official account and called out the documentary for using AI to create comments he never made. His tweets and those from Iannotti have now been deleted.
Keating drew attention with his lines in the latest episodes, during a segment on tournament poker versus cash games.
“They’re tournament players. They are going to hate me,” he said. “I want to be gracious, but I would compare it like chess and checkers. Tournaments are more like checkers to me.” “I hate tournaments. There is nothing I like about them. I do not know why I am here,” he added.
Show Creator Responds
The show is funded by GGPoker, the new owners of the WSOP, but the project itself was created by Iannotti. His past roles include Full Tilt Poker Head of Pro, Celebrity and VIP Marketing and PokerStars Team Pro Online lead during the early 2010s. He later founded Artisans on Fire, an Emmy Award-winning studio in 2015.
His bio states: “Making poker bingeable. Telling stories that match the stakes.” Iannotti had said earlier that he wanted the documentary to be something “worthy of your time. Worthy of their stories. Worthy of this game.” The crew spent twenty 16-hour days shooting 700 hours of footage.
Early on Saturday, Iannotti replied to Keating’s post. He admitted that AI had been used on two short sections across the two episodes.
“We used AI technology on two brief sequences during post-production, totaling approximately 10 seconds across the 55 total minutes of Episode 5 and 6. As we have discussed with Alan directly, we should have consulted him on these editorial choices.”
He added that Keating’s episodes received strong feedback, with many viewers noting how much they liked Keating’s presence in the show. “We stand by our work and the overall integrity of the docuseries,” he said.
What Was Edited?
In another deleted post, Iannotti listed the edited sections and what Keating had actually said. He argued that the themes were Keating’s and that the vocabulary followed ideas from the interview.
These themes were compressed into shorter statements for transitions and pacing. Iannotti accepted that Keating should have been consulted and that the production should have disclosed the method.
The Tough Spot Quote
The first AI-generated line appears at the 19:18 mark of Episode 5. It shows Keating saying, “I like putting people in tough spots and testing their will.”
Iannotti said this came from a combination of Keating’s actual lines, including “I think cash games are a bigger test of the man than tournaments.”
Keating also said in interviews, “I hate to say it. I actually do get a lot of joy out of when someone is really frustrated,” and “I think I am more comfortable in some difficult situations than most. If I do have an advantage, that might be it.” These were used to craft the AI-generated segment.
The Cash Game Quote
The second AI-generated line appears at the 23:00 mark of Episode 6. Keating is shown saying, “Is this over? Can I go find a cash game now?” Iannotti said this was built from lines such as “Should we go play cash?”
Were Other Players Affected?
When contacted by PokerNews, Iannotti denied that AI was used for any other players in the series. He called the two Keating lines “oversights” and said he had apologized.
However, another player from an upcoming episode, Alex Keating, has now spoken out. He claimed that the documentary added a “fake voice” during scenes and that the edit removed context.
“I never agreed to this,” he said. “I was a feature player for an episode that I think will be coming out soon. I no longer want to be a part of this. And I do not give consent to voice over and spliced editing.”
Player Reaction
Reaction came fast. Many said the news was disappointing and troubling. Keating replied with a short and direct comment.
“This does not deserve a reply and you know why,” he wrote. Georg Fagerbakke called it “outrageous,” adding, “You can pretend it does not put the integrity of the production into question, but it absolutely does.”
“What a wild response,” said Jon Pardy. Another user, @DontBleffMe, said, “This is repulsive and shows a total lack of character.” The final two episodes of No Limit air on Tuesday and Thursday this week.
