Twenty-two-year-old Lucas Jumalon built a 194,000,000 chip stack on Day 8 to lead the final nine players into the WSOP Main Event final table on August 3, where a $10,000,000 first prize awaits the winner.
The final nine players in the World Series of Poker Main Event have officially been determined after an intense Day 8 session. Leading the field is 22-year-old Lucas Jumalon, who built a towering stack of 194,000,000 chips following a dominant performance.
Jumalon will return to the tournament on August 3 in pole position, sitting just eight eliminations away from becoming the newest poker world champion.
Rami Hammoud and Jamie Shaevel round out the top three chip counts behind the leader.
The final table line-up also features highly decorated tournament veterans, including Canada's Greg Mueller, who holds three WSOP bracelets, and America's Michael Gagliano, who possesses four bracelets.
Jumalon secured his massive lead and set the final table by eliminating reigning Aussie Millions Main Event champion Malcolm Trayner in 10th place, which brought an end to the run of the Australian rail.
The remaining nine contenders have guaranteed themselves a payout of at least $1,000,000. However, the ultimate focus remains on the $10,000,000 first-prize payout and the diamond championship bracelet when play resumes in exactly three weeks.
While the final nine players secured their spots for August, the start of Day 8 featured a highly competitive field of 21 returning players. Among those under the spotlight was nine-time WSOP bracelet winner and reigning Player of the Year Shaun Deeb. Dylan Smith, a tournament competitor who captured his first career bracelet earlier this series, was also in contention.
Another notable participant was Wilson, who has established himself as a top tournament player with four victories this year and $13 million in career earnings.
Poker Hall of Famer Todd Brunson put together his deepest Main Event run in three decades, attempting to join his legendary father, Doyle Brunson, as only the second father-son duo to reach the final table.
Additionally, 2019 champion Hossein Ensan was in the field, attempting to secure a second Main Event title in seven years.
