Finland, Sweden, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy have supplied the first five champions of this year’s EPT Barcelona.

Elias Suhonen leads the early prize list with a €114,200 high-roller victory, while four other tournaments have already produced winners at Casino Barcelona. The biggest field on the tables, however, belongs to the PokerStars Open Main Event, where 2,365 entries have been reduced to 353 after six starting flights.

The largest completed buy-in of the opening days went to Finland’s Elias Suhonen.

A total of 31 entries were recorded in the €10,200 No-Limit Hold’em tournament. Only five reached the money, with Brandon Wilson, Mehdi Chaoui and Jean-Noel Thorel falling before the final heads-up match.

Suhonen then defeated Nicholas Seward to take €114,200, while the American collected €73,700.

Vranken Wins Seniors Title

Antoine Vranken emerged from one of the larger completed fields of the opening days, defeating 279 opponents in the €1,100 Seniors tournament.

The Dutchman reached the final stages alongside Timur Sattarov, Igor Pihela and Dara O’Kearney. Sattarov ultimately became his heads-up opponent, but Vranken took the final pot and the €55,650 first prize.

Molina Converts Second Recorded Cash Into a Win

The local title of the day went to Spain’s Francisco Molina.


Molina topped a 251-entry €1,100 Single Re-Entry, collecting €42,635. His previous recorded live result was a sixth-place finish in a small Mystery Bounty event in Madrid, making the Barcelona victory a sizeable step up.


Jamie Dwan reached the final table but exited fourth for €17,480. Mathias Siljander followed in third before Molina and Simone Demasi decided the title.

Erik Lindqwist secured Sweden’s first title of the festival in the €5,200 6-Max.

The 37-entry tournament came down to Lindqwist and Finland’s Luka Sorainen after Toni Kaukua exited in third. Lindqwist finished the job for €68,200, the largest live score of his career.

Youness Barakat outlasted 42 entries and defeated Japan’s Sho Homma in the final match. Barakat earned €28,820, with Homma receiving €18,140.
